Illinois Lawmaker Introduces Plan To Keep Bears In Chicago After Indiana Move Not Well Received
What a surprise, Illinois leadership is trying to fix the Chicago Bears debacle.
Over the last few days, it's probably taken you just a couple of phone scrolls to see how ticked off everyone is about the Chicago Bears moving to Hammond, Indiana following a long saga involving property taxes and Soldier Field.

Bears fans aren't happy about this move, as the Chicago Bears have been in the city since 1921.
The Bears' announcement about moving to Indiana comes after Illinois' House and Senate couldn't agree on stadium proposals and each passed one that didn't get the support of the other.
The Latest Attempt
After deadlines have come and gone, there's a new, last-ditch attempt by an Illinois lawmaker to keep the Bears in Chicago.
The legislation is introduced by Rep. Dan Ugaste from Geneva, who said about it:
This entire debacle has exposed the serious flaws in our property tax system....My legislation will help keep the Bears in Illinois while lowering property taxes for everyone
There are a lot of moving parts to this thing but basically here are the points to know:
- Allowing communities to negotiate competitively for a new stadium and entertainment district (like the Arlington Heights possibility)
- Legislation doesn't pick a location
- Includes the 'Cap and Drop' Property Tax Relief Plan
As Of Now
Arlington Heights has been considered as a potential place to move the Bears that's still a Chicagoland area but legislation to support that failed.
The new legislation comes late as the Bears' board of directors has already announced their plans to move forward with a stadium in Hammond, Indiana. They could actually make 2 venues in Hammond, as is being reported as a possibility.
And remember, Hammond gave the Bears organization reason, offering them $1 billion in incentives if they would move to Indiana.
The new proposal comes a week after Illinois' spring legislative session closed with no deal on the table for Soldier Field.
