Illinois State Police Issue A Labor Day Weekend Warning to Drivers

Labor Day weekend is traditionally a time of barbecues and end-of-summer parties. And along with all that partying, there tends to be a lot of alcohol consumption, which can lead to a rise in DUIs.

That's why Illinois State Police are warning drivers to be on their best behavior.

WQAD reports that state troopers will have extra patrols on the roads and they'll also be conducting checkpoints.

The ISP released a statement stating troopers will be concentrating on drivers that are under the influence, distracted, speeding, or not wearing their seatbelts.

“There will be additional emphasis on DUI offenses over the holiday weekend,” read the statement.  It’s part of the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which started on August 14 and lasts through September 2.

Extra attention will also be given to drivers that don't adhere to Scott's Law. The law states that drivers must move over to make room for emergency vehicles. The first offense for violating is $250.
