I wanted to believe it. Really, I did. I was willing to put aside all basic understandings of the technologies currently known to man to accept what I was seeing.

Yesterday, around 2 in the afternoon, I was tagged in a post from HUVrtech.com. It included a video that declared that hoverboards as we had seen them in "Back To The Future" 2 were coming.

Trembling, anticipating, I hit play.

The video starts with, of course, Christopher Lloyd driving up in a, of course, DeLorean. A group of people is waiting for him as he unpacks a carrying case. Opening it up, he pulls out a pink hoverboard like the kind Marty "borrows" from a kid in the year 2015.

Suddenly, about half a dozen people take their turns floating by on hoverboards, controlled, apparently, by an app on a smartphone. Tony Hawk, Moby, Terrell Davis, Schoolboy Q, and a few other celebs try it out, give their testimonial, the whole shebang.

And I bought it. I had no idea how it worked, but I wanted them to shut up, and then proceed to take my money.

Well, folks, I'm here to tell you that most of you aren't as stupidly optimistic as me.

From scpr.org:

"There was speculation online that it's to promote a new "Back to the Future" movie, or the new "Back to the Future" musical, but it appears to be part of a Funny or Die project. A costume designer who worked on the shoot posted the experience on her online resume, which was later pulled. The "lead engineer" seen in the film is an actor, Nelson Cheng. Christopher Lloyd also mentioned doing a shoot with Funny or Die late last year on the Nerdist podcast.

In addition, fans have posted what look like crane shadows from the crane likely used to hold these celebrities up on their hoverboards and still images that seem to catch the harnesses beneath their clothes. In particular, fans have cited a shadow on the booth at 3 minutes and 28 seconds into the video."

So here's to you, whoever actually made the video.
