Inmate Dies at Rock Island County Jail

The Rock Island County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a jail inmate at Rock Island County Jail.

On Monday, August 8 at about 4:30 p.m., correctional officers responded to reports of a medical emergency of an inmate.

The inmate, identified as 46-year-old Todd Allen Payne, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff's office says there is an ongoing investigation into the death of the inmate.

According to court records, Payne was recently charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault of a family member under the age of 18.
