Will Iowa’s Carver-Hawkeye Arena Finally Get Air Conditioning? Here’s The University’s Plans
There's work going on in Iowa City.
One of the most common fan complaints about the University of Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena is the lack of air conditioning.
Now, the university is moving forward with some renovation plans for the arena now that the Iowa Board of Regents has approved planning and design work for the major renovation project.

It's no small project. According to KCRG, university officials price the renovation at between $50 million-$70 million, funded entirely by athletic department fundraising and donor support.
And yes, that includes bringing air conditioning into the arena.
A big part of the project is "improving the fan experience". Rod Lehnertz, University of Iowa’s Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations and university architect, said that:
We will, as a part of this design process for this project, will be designing and exploring the options for effective cooling of the building.
Don't think you'll go to Carver-Hawkeye any time soon and get better air conditioning. The project is expected to take 2 years to do and it's a phased approach, which is intended to minimize disruptions to stuff like games, graduation, and other events.
The final price tag and scope of the project will, of course, be determined later in the planning and design.
