The Kentucky Derby - a day where extremely large and obnoxious hats are worn by people who've had a few too many mint juleps.

The 1 and 1/4 mile horse race is run every year between 20 horses as thousands whip out their wallets to bet which one will cross the finish line first.

According to WQAD, this year, the Kentucky Derby has a special tie to Iowa. "Brody's Cause," is owned by the Albaugh Family who are from the Des Moines area. The horse started with a 21 to 1 odds and finished in the top 10 by placing 7th in Saturday's race. Way to go, "Brody's Cause!"
