Iowa And Illinois’ Favorite Thanksgiving Pies Are Evidently Not What You Would Think
The sun may be setting earlier but it's pie season.
Thanksgiving is right around the corner and we're all prepping our food and menus. And of course, for a lot of us, it wouldn't be complete without at least one kind of pie.
Delish looked at the kinds of pies that see an uptick in recipe searches starting 30 days before Thanksgiving. And Iowa and Illinois' favorite pies are fall classics.
The study found that, in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, Iowa and Illinois are both most looking up cherry pie recipes. Cherries are a summer fruit but they can easily find their way into the list of fall flavors.
Missouri and Wisconsin prefer apple pie (which is kinda surprising since Door County, Wisconsin is so known for their cherries) while Minnesota prefers cream pie.
Some states have uniquely weird ones: Oregon most searches tamale pie recipes around Thanksgiving. Shoofly Pie (molasses) is popular in Pennsylvania. Buttermilk Pie (which I'm particularly good at making, if I do say so myself) is a favorite in Tennessee and Virginia.
Other national favorite Thanksgiving pies include: Key Lime, Pumpkin, Grape, Peanut Butter, Sweet Potato, Butterscotch, Pecan, Mississippi Mud, Chocolate, and Banoffee.
But you need to keep menu options open to keep as many in the family happy as you can. So as far as non-pie Thanksgiving baked goods go, Iowans tried to find New York Cheesecake the most leading up to Thanksgiving. Illinoisans looked for cornbread muffins and Minnesotans are trying to find tiramisu recipes.
