Iowa, Illinois Hy-Vee Stores Are Ending Employee Discount Program
If you're a family member of an employee at Hy-Vee and you have been enjoying the discount offered to that employee, then this one is on you and the person you know who works at Hy-Vee. Company leaders announce that effective today, the Hy-Vee employee discount program will no longer exist and employees will have to pay full price when they shop.
According to OurQuadCities.com, Hy-Vee is killing its employee discount program effective today, Monday, February 20, 2023, citing abuse of the policy. For quite some time, Hy-Vee employees have been able to take 10% off of their grocery store bill at Iowa's largest private employer because they are employed there.
Being a former Fareway employee, we never had a discount as employees. Hy-Vee employees were lucky to have such a deal but since people can't keep their discounts to themselves, Hy-Vee is pulling the plug on the discount.
OurQuadCities.com reports that on Friday, Hy-Vee Executive Vice President Georgia Van Gundy announced to the company in a video sent to employees that the discount was ending due to an “increase in fraudulent practices.”
Van Gundy said that management has noticed many employees sharing the discount with their extended families and friends and those employees will be contacted by Hy-Vee management soon, according to OurQuadCities.com.
Because of the few that can't abide by the rules, Hy-Vee is canceling the discount for all employees across its eight-state region, including Iowa and Illinois. More than 90,000 employees will have their discounts taken away effective today.
