The Quad Cities love to bike, as evidenced by all of the cycling lanes and paths around the area, not to mention our frequent participation in RAGBRAI over the years. But according to a new report, Iowa is actually the least safe place to ride your bicycle.

According to KWQC, a study conducted by ADT Security Services ranked cycling safety in each US state based on factors like percentage of bike commuters, number of bike lanes, amount of fatal crashes, and laws in place protecting cyclists. Five of the least safe cities are located in Iowa: Des Moines, Sioux City, Johnston, Webster City, and Waterloo, making Iowa the most dangerous state for biking overall.

As for the safest places for cyclists to bike, unsurprisingly, cities in California, Colorado, and Oregon top the list.
