Iowa Man Found Guilty of Animal Torture
KWWL in Waterloo reports that a jury has found 42-year-old Jason O’Neil Johnson guilty of animal torture.
Johnson of Independence, Iowa was initially arrested following an incident in May in which he held down and beat the family dog with his fists and a belt. The dog, Daisy, had apparently chewed on a pair of sunglasses Johnson had left out, causing his outburst.
According to reports, Johnson made his son record the beating to warn his other children of what could happen when they don't put the dog away in her kennel.
Johnson's animal torture charge carries a prison sentence of two years, along with a large fine. Anyone convicted of the crime must submit to a psychological evaluation and complete a community work requirement as well. The community work may take place at an animal shelter or pound.
Sentencing for Johnson will be held at a future court date.
