Iowa schools started school on Wednesday, August 23rd. With the start of the new school year, school speed zones in Iowa are now in effect, including in Davenport.

The Davenport Police Department has been adamant on social media lately to remind citizens that this day was coming. The post above was from the first day of school reminding drivers to slow their roll.

Speeding In An Iowa School Zone Could Send You To Jail

Believe it or not, if you're caught speeding in a school zone in Iowa, you could spend some quality time in jail. If that doesn't scare you, to kick off the school year the Davenport Police Department will be enforcing those school speed zones pretty strictly.

Not only does law enforcement want you to obey the posted school speed zones but they also want to keep kids going to and from school safe.

If you're caught speeding in an Iowa school zone, it could turn out to be more than a simple misdemeanor. The website drivinglaws.org says,

"And the fine is generally $100 for speeding violations in school zones. However, a driver who's caught going more than ten miles per hour over the limit in a school zone faces up to 30 days in jail and/or $65 to $625 in fines."

See, it's not worth it.

The speed limit in Iowa school speed zones is 25 mph on school days (Monday through Friday) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. That's according to the sign I read on my way to work and the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

Are All The Quad Cities School Speed Zones In Effect?

Rock Island-Milan has been in school since like June (actually, August 3rd), so speed zones in Rock Island have been in effect for a while.

With the state of Iowa going back to school today (August 23rd) that means Davenport, Bettendorf, Muscatine, North Scott, PV, and all of the other QCA Iowa school speed zones are now in effect. Only one other school district in the Quad Cities metro has two days of summer left.
