Will Iowa Have A White Christmas This Year? The Farmer’s Almanac Forecast Is In
Nothing adds to the Christmas magic quite like snow.
As long as you're not having to travel for the holidays, snow is great around Christmas! All of the traditional Christmas stuff involves snowmen, sleighs, or snowflakes so why not make it real-life, right? It's a question we all get this time of the year: will we get a white Christmas?
Iowa's Historical Probability
Farmers' Almanac classified Iowa's historical probability of having a white Christmas (which they consider 1 inch of snow or more) as good. Here's their map:
That's data from a 30-year data set. But what about this year? It kind of looks like the snow is shifting south for 2024.
Iowa Is Forecasted To Get A White Christmas
Yep there's no time like snow time! Farmer's Almanac expects Iowa to be one of a few Midwest states to definitely get a white Christmas. Here's their map for 2024:
The forecast doesn't say how much snow we could get or the timing of it, it's still too far out for those specifics. But the central part of the U.S. will get a white Christmas to some extent, according to the Almanac. Notice the difference between the average and this year's forecast? A lot less of a chance of snow in places like Wisconsin.
December 25th is still a minute away. Keep track of the forecast as we get closer with our friends at KWQC. They stay on top of it.
The good news for the rest of the winter for us is that the Almanac predicts a "milder, gentler winter than average". I'm here for that forecast.
