An Iowa woman is receiving praise around the country for creating a "giving tree" with masks that she knitted herself.

According to WQAD, Deb Siggins, 55 of Lisbon, Iowa, has sewn hundreds of face masks and hung them on a tree near her home for friends, family, neighbors and local community members to grab when they need one.

In an interview with CNN, Siggins said,

Originally, Siggins created face masks for healthcare workers at UnityPoint Health's St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after this hospital asked people to sew masks. St. Luke's was facing shortages of masks because of the coronavirus pandemic, and Siggins wanted to help.

To help with shortage while maintaining social distancing guidelines, Siggins hangs up her homemade masks on a tree near her home. She creates the masks with a variety of designs and is always restocking the tree. Siggins told CNN that the masks are usually all gone within a day of her hanging them up.

Siggins also told CNN that she has also made masks for coworkers, firefighters, paramedics, grocery store employees, and elderly patients at the doctor's office where she works.

It's great to see people helping people during these trying times. Thanks Deb for making masks and keep up the good work!
