Former Iowa Star Kate Martin Rewarded With Standard WNBA Contract

Kate Martin Signs New WNBA Contract

Former Iowa Hawkeye guard Kate Martin has signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. USA Today reports that Martin signed a developmental contract with the Sparks at the start of the season. Now, LA has signed her to a standard WNBA contract for the remainder of the season.

Martin No Longer Has Playing Limits

Martin joined the Sparks on May 10th after being waived by the Golden State Valkyries. USA Today reports that she initially signed a developmental contract, which only allowed her to play in a maximum of 12 games for LA this season. Martin has played in 10 games so far, but now that she is signed to a standard WNBA contract, she no longer has a restriction on playing time.

To make room on the roster for Martin, the Sparks waived guard Ta'Niya Latson, who they selected 20th overall in the WNBA Draft out of South Carolina, according to USA Today. 

So far this season, Martin is averaging just over 7 minutes per game for the Sparks and scoring 2.6 points per game.
