Over the weekend, women from all across the country headed out to Florida for the Miss America competition. It is considered one of the largest scholarship programs for young women in the United States.

It was held at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando.

While all of the women competing are incredibly talented and qualified in their own rights, we only really care about the representative from the Hawkeye State.

Who Is Miss Iowa?

In June of 2023, Alysa Goethe received the title of Miss Iowa.

Goethe went to Drake University to attain her bachelor's degree in music Teacher Education. She is originally from Bettendorf and before being crowned Miss Iowa back in June, she held the title of Miss Polk County.

The young woman considers herself an advocate for diabetes awareness and education. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of eleven, according to reports.

When she isn't making public appearances as Miss Iowa, Goethe is the Head Vocal Music Teacher at Hiatt Middle School.

History Was Made

On January 13th a new Miss America was crowned for the new year. While Miss Iowa didn't take home the ultimate crown, another worthy contestant did.

Miss Colorado, Madison Marsh, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force received the incredible honor, according to reports.

She is the first active duty servicemember to be crowned Miss America.

If Miss Iowa were to be the one to receive the honor, she would've immediately made history as well...

An Iowa contestant has never won the title of Miss America in program history. If Goethe ended up taking home the crown, then she would have been the FIRST Iowan to be named Miss America EVER.

The next Miss Iowa is set to be crowned this summer.
