College football fans from around the country watch this football game and it's an amazing week that puts the state of Iowa in the national spotlight. The last time the Cyclones visited Kinnick Stadium, in 2022, they left Iowa City with a 10-7 win over the Hawkeyes. In 2023, the Hawkeyes got revenge as they beat the Cyclones 20-13 in Jack Trice Stadium.

2022 is the only win in this rivalry for the Cyclones since Matt Campbell took over the head coaching job at Iowa State in 2016. Cy-Hawk Longest Winning Streak

According to KCCI, the Hawkeyes and Cyclone have played against one another 70 times, dating back to 1894. The teams met 24 times from then until 1934. There was a pretty long gap in between the next time the teams would play again as the rivalry was renewed in 1977.

The Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones have played against each other a total of 70 times and the Hawks have a solid hold on the head-to-head matchup, with a record of 47-23. The longest winning streak is 15 games and that record is held by the Hawkeyes. From 1983-1997, the Hawkeyes never lost a game against the Cyclones.

While the Cyclones have mostly been on the losing end of this rivalry, they have put together a solid streak of their own. KCCI reports the Cyclone's best winning stretch against the Hawkeyes was from 1998-2002, winning 5 consecutive games. Sadly, after that winning streak, they lost 15 games in a row.

Top 10 Matchup

There is also only 1 time these teams have faced off against each other when they were rated as the top 10 teams in the country. In 2021, the 10th-ranked Hawkeyes beat the 9th-ranked Cyclones, 27-17.

Both teams enter Saturday's matchup with a 1-0 record to start the season. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
