It's the holiday season! But which holiday? According to a recent statistic, 10% of Americans won't be celebrating Christmas this year. Maybe you're in that 10%, or maybe you're in one of the 30 countries that don't celebrate at all.

Perhaps you're just not feeling the usual holiday spirit. If you're looking for a new reason to celebrate something in Illinois in December, you have plenty of opportunity between now and New Year's to create some new traditions!

It's been 121 years since their first successful flight was documented and look how far we've come since then! We have in-flight wifi, the option to annoy our seat neighbor by taking a Peloton class inches from their face, and you can even bring a Christmas tree with you if you fly with Delta. So what's the best way to celebrate today? Treat yourself to a staycation and appreciate you're not flying alongside people who travel with entire Christmas trees.

Time to whip out that heavy black eyeliner, locate all the studded accessories in your closet, and throw on your favorite band tee. Maybe you do that anyway at every rock show you go to, but today you can do it while listening to your favorite vinyl and not leaving the house. I know it wasn't just a phase, you know it wasn't just a phase, but will the parents ever understand?

December 21st: Humbug Day.

December 23rd: Festivus.

A holiday for the rest of us! Popularized by the character Frank Costanza on the 90s hit show Seinfeld, Festivus is a secular holiday that only requires an aluminum pole (do we think Delta will let us bring that on an airplane?). The day is filled with an airing of grievances, a Festivus dinner, and the Feats of Strength. If you're looking to spice up that family reunion this time of year, Festivus might be the one for you!

December 26th: National Whiner's Day.

Get out that bottle of wine you've been saving for a special occasion-- oh, not that kind of wine? The OTHER kind of whining and dining. You may think we did that already on Humbug Day, but this holiday, created in 1986, includes one caveat: you can whine about anything, as long as you are grateful for what you do have. So, maybe whine with a bottle of wine?

December 29th: Tick Tock Day.

Thank baby Marvel Jesus, for once it has nothing to do with that app the kids are using these days. Tick Tock Day is, firstly, spelled correctly, and second, meant as a reminder that every moment matters. If there's anything left unfinished before the new year, now is the time to get 'er done.

Looking for more holidays to pencil in on your calendar for next December? You can add Bodhi Day, or the "day of enlightenment", on December 8th, and Human Rights Day on December 10th. There is world Monkey Day on December 14th or Cat herders Day on December 15th.  Most of these might not be what you think of when you hear the words holiday season, but one thing's for sure. Whether you choose to celebrate Christmas, or you gather your cats around to watch Seinfeld reruns, there is always something worth celebrating this time of year.
