Kings Harvest Pet Rescue in Davenport is making a difficult but necessary decision as its shelter reaches capacity and adoptions continue to slow.

Adoption Fees Waived

The no-kill shelter has announced that adoption fees for adult dogs and adult cats are being waived as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters event. While waiving fees isn't something the rescue typically wants to do, staff say the move is necessary to help more homeless animals find loving homes.

How Does Waiving The Fee Affect The Shelter?

Normally, adoption fees help offset the cost of vaccinations, spay and neuter surgeries, microchips, medical treatment, food, and the daily care each animal receives while waiting for adoption. By temporarily eliminating those fees, the shelter hopes to encourage more families to adopt and create much-needed space for incoming rescues.

Although adoption fees are waived, Kings Harvest is asking those who are financially able to consider making a donation. Contributions of any size will help recover some of the costs associated with caring for rescued animals and allow the organization to continue its lifesaving work.

Get A Free Bag Of Food With Your Adoption

To help new pet owners get started, every adult dog and adult cat adopted during the Clear the Shelters event will also go home with a large bag of pet food.

Shelter staff says every adoption has a ripple effect. Not only does it give one deserving animal a second chance, but it also frees up space for another homeless pet in need of rescue.

Those interested in adopting can complete a pre-approval application online or visit Kings Harvest Pet Rescue at 21110 Holden Drive in Davenport. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sharing the event with family and friends can also help more animals find the forever homes they deserve.
