Scott County Park Pool Not Opening Until July – Here’s Why
Sorry kids, your pool days have to wait.
The start of swim season at Scott County Park has been officially sidelined. While the pool was scheduled to open by late May, a series of setbacks has pushed the debut back by over a month. Swimmers will now have to wait until at least the first week of July to get in the water.
Contractor Staffing Shortages Cause Delays
The delay comes from ongoing renovations that hit a wall this spring. According to Scott County Conservation, the contractor handling the project faced staffing issues, preventing the work from being completed on schedule. Deputy Director Nathan Unsworth acknowledged the frustration for both families and seasonal staff, asking for patience as crews work to finalize the facility.
Pass Holder Options and Alternative Locations
If you already purchased a seasonal pass, you aren't completely out of luck. Your pass is currently valid for use at West Lake Beach. For those who would rather have their money back or address the Scott County Park closure specifically, the county is offering two paths:
Prorated Refunds: You can keep your pass and request a partial refund once the pool finally opens.
Direct Support: Impacted pass holders can call 563-328-3280 to discuss their accounts.
2026 Swimming Lessons Officially Canceled
The most significant impact of the construction delay is the total cancellation of the 2026 swimming lesson program. Officials confirmed that lessons will not be rescheduled for later in the summer. Instead, all registered participants will receive automatic refunds in the coming weeks.
