Quad Cities Water Supply Deemed “Safe” By The Company Supplying The Water

While this may be the case for the Quad Cities, outlying areas, and people using wells to get their water still face danger in their water supply.

What Is The Source of Quad Cities Water?

According to the report, the primary water source for the Quad Cities is surface water from the Mississippi River. Yep. That river.
Because it is an exposed surface supply, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources ranks its susceptibility to agricultural and urban contamination as high. To ensure safety, Iowa American Water treats the water with conventional coagulation, settling, a Superpulsator for clarification, granular activated carbon filtration, and an ultraviolet light disinfection system. So in other words...your water goes through a lot before you sip it.

The Water Quality Results

The key findings from the sampling include:
- Disinfection By-products: Total Trihalomethanes (39.00 ppb) and Haloacetic Acids (37.00 ppb) were well below maximum contaminant levels (MCL).
- Lead & Copper: Both remained below established action levels.
- Other Substances: Fluoride (0.66 ppm), Sodium (18.4 ppm), and Nitrate (4.43 ppm) were safely within compliance parameters.
- PFAS: Monitoring for unregulated contaminants detected a low level of PFOA (2.1 ng/L), while multiple other PFAS chemicals were not detected.
