We can all agree that job searching is difficult.

We've all been there at some point in our lives. The seemingly endless search for jobs and, when you do find one that seems doable, the pay listed with it is insanely low and/or there are no benefits.

And if you go on interviews, you have to ask about the salary, which will prompt an immediate judgy response from the interviewer based on how you react to the number.

Illinois' New Law

A number of new laws will go into effect in Illinois, including one to change up how the job hunt goes, according to NBC Chicago.

HB 3129 was amended to add a part that will go into effect in Illinois in 2025. It mandates that most Illinois-based businesses will have to put information on pay scale and benefits on job listings, starting on January 1st. That includes any "bonuses, stock options, or other incentives".

It applies to companies with 15 employees or more, so yep most businesses will have to make it straight up public right off the bat.

The amendment will also apply to third-party websites that post the job listings.

Posting a position's pay scale and benefits is an inconsistent thing in a job search, some companies do and some don't. California and Washington also have legislation like this in place. Other states, like Colorado, Maryland, and Connecticut, require employers to divulge pay & benefits information upon request in the interview.
