Iowa Nice doesn't always apply to driving.

If you've been driving for any amount of time in Iowa, you've probably seen your share of snippy drivers, rude drivers, and ridiculous drivers. And we all get annoyed with them.

But apparently, it's not as bad as some other states. However that's possible.

According to 2025 statistics from Consumer Affairs, Iowa is much more chill with road rage than you'd probably think. They looked at a few metrics, including:

  • Traffic incidents involving gun violence
  • Traffic violations for aggressive/careless driving or speeding
  • Fatal accidents involving aggressive/careless driving
  • Number of fatalities involving aggressive/careless driving

These were all compounded into a 100-points score. Like a test, but you don't want an A on this one.

Iowa was named the second-least road rage-prone state with a score of 1.4/100. And the stats show that road rage levels have eased back in both Illinois and Iowa.

I'm sorry, have they ever been here?

But it's not just us. Pew numbers show that 63% of Americans think road rage is a "major" problem in their areas. So it looks like all of us need to remember to take a deep breath and be patient.

If you're thinking "how much worse can it get?", let me introduce you to the top 5 states that were calculated to be the worst for road rage:

  • 1. Louisiana
  • 2. New Mexico
  • 3. Colorado
  • 4. Arkansas (as a native Arkansan, I can confirm)
  • 5. Montana

Remember, driving on the offense instead of the defense can land you jail time and fines just because you lost your temper.
