Man Dies After Falling Off a Cliff at Starved Rock State Park

A tragic accident has occurred at a popular park near the QCA.

WQAD reports a 31-year-old man has died after falling off a cliff at Starved Rock State Park in Oglesby, Illinois.

IL Conservation Police responded to a call from Starved Rock employees who witnessed the accident take place. The fall was most likely an accident and happened after the man entered a restricted area. The incident took place just after midnight early Sunday morning.

"The employees and emergency responders climbed up debris to reach the man’s position and help firefighters perform a rope rescue to recover him. Shortly after, he was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. by the La Salle County Coroner’s Office."

Conservation Police Sergeant Phil Wire said alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the accident. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday, but results are pending. The man's name has not been released to the public yet.
