Maquoketa High Schoolers & Preschoolers Moving To Online Learning
Maquoketa high schoolers and preschoolers are being moved to online classes today after officials report a shortage of staffers because of illness.
The Maquoketa Community District released a letter on Tuesday announcing that all high schoolers and preschoolers will be learning online starting on November 11. Chris Hoover, Superintendent of Mquoketa Schools said that students at the high school and preschool will be learning at home from the rest of the week.
Superintendent Hoover said this decision about the high school and preschool is due to a “staff shortage from illness.”
In the press release, Hoover gave other details in regards to the entire district moving to all online learning. Hoover says that the entire school district will be doing remote learning on November 23 to November 24, November 30 and December 1.
The district hopes students can return to in person learning, if they choose, by December 2.
Reasons for the changes to online learning for the district is listed below:
- To provide a solution to staffing shortages.
- To provide additional time to recognize symptoms, reduce exposure and allow beginning of quarantining to take place, if students were exposed to COVID.
- To implement online/remote learning expectations that would continue if extended online/remote learning was needed in the future.
- To provide an opportunity for MCSD staff to focus on online learning only.
- To provide for a safer learning environment for our students and staff
