Man Pulled Over In Illinois For Traffic Stop, Gets Busted For Having 100 Pounds Of Meth
It's the literal definition of street value.
All of us know (thanks to D.A.R.E. or some other source) that meth has a pretty high street value, even just by the gram. So imagine by the pound.
Earlier this week, a 25-year-old man from Madison, Wisconsin named Ivan Kuckuk was pulled over for a traffic stop on eastbound I-74 in McLean County, just outside of Bloomington (there's no word what the initial stop was for, but I can't imagine it was for speeding).
Officers searched the car and found multiple packages of suspected ice. Specifically, 99.7 pounds of meth. Allegedly, the street value of everything smushed into that suitcase was $3.6 million.
There was no one else in the car at the time and Ivan was taken into custody without incident. Details are still limited at this point, so there's no word yet on where exactly he was going or coming from with the meth suitcase.
Illinois State Police presented the case to the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office, who charged Ivan with Methamphetamine Trafficking (which is a Class X Felony). Short of first-degree murder, a Class X felony is the most serious felony level in Illinois. If he is found guilty of a Class X felony, he's not eligible for a probation sentence and will be in prison anywhere from 6-30 years. Being sentenced with this level of felony isn't a matter of the judge's discretion.
But for now, he's being held in the McLean County Jail pending his first court appearance. That date has not been announced yet.
