These Are The 3 Most Stolen Cars In Iowa
Sometimes thieves just can't resist it.
Think about the most common kinds of cars you see when you're driving around. A lot of sedans like Corollas, a lot of jacked-up pickup trucks because of course. Compare the Market looked at the most commonly stolen kinds of cars in every state.
For the total number of car thefts (measured per 100k residents), Iowa's not doing too bad, ranking at 156 car thefts per 100k residents, bringing us in at 39th in the country. We could be a lot worse.
Iowa's top 3 most stolen car brands ranked like this:
- Chevy Pickup
- Ford Pickup
- Chevy Impala
It's not surprising honestly, I've seen lots of all 3 of those on the roads. Iowa isn't alone in the top 2 stolen cars being pickups, as most of the Midwest has those in the top 2 too.
Across the river, meanwhile Illinois ranked #18 for the amount of car thefts according to the most recent numbers. The top 3 cars stolen in Illinois are:
- Hyundai Elantra
- Hyundai Sonata
- Kia Optima
Nationally, Ford pickups are the most stolen car, followed by Chevy pickups, and the Hyundai Elantra is also a popular target for thieves.
If it's any comfort to those of us who have to park outside, internationally, the U.S. doesn't rank #1 in the amount of car thefts. That honor goes to New Zealand. France ranks 2nd and the U.S. comes in 3rd. Smart and Volvo are the most stolen cars globally, with Tofaş, Volkswagen, and Nissan also making the list of brands often stolen.
