One Dead, One Injured in Rock Island Standoff

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in yesterday's Rock Island shooting as 91-year-old Helen Elliot of Rock Island.

A preliminary autopsy shows Elliot died of a gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen.

The identity of the second person wounded in the incident has yet to be released.

An investigation into the situation is ongoing.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police say one person is dead and another wounded after a standoff in residential Rock Island Monday afternoon.

According to WQAD, police responded to a report of a suicidal resident in the 3900 block of 20th Avenue at about 12:45 p.m.

Police blocked off nearby streets to take positions around the house.

Denkmann school was placed on lock down, but was dismissed on time when there was no longer a threat to students.

Officers entered the home around 2:45 p.m. where the two victims were located.
