One Of America’s Best Places To Retire In 2024 Is In Iowa
You may not have to go far to find your dream retirement town.
Life post-work is something a lot of us dream of. What will it be like to have saved up enough money to enjoy our golden days and not have to work 40+ hours a week? A big chunk of that is asking yourself and your partner where you would like to spend those years.
Forbes has come out with their picks for the best cities in America to retire in 2024. An Iowa town lands on it. Must be because of Midwestern food and Iowa Nice, right?
Where To Retire In Iowa
Forbes looked at several factors when making this list, including:
- Housing cost
- Healthcare (physicians per capita)
- Air quality & climate
- Crime rate
- Ease of transportation
Forbes named Iowa City as one of America's best places to retire in 2024. It listed the pros as being Iowa City's median home price (which is 28% below the national average), having a very high ratio of physicians per capita, good air quality, comfortable climate, bikeable and kind of walkable, and with a low serious crime rate.
The cons that Forbes has for Iowa City are: "Cold winters. So-so retiree state tax climate (but no state income tax on Social Security or other retirement income)".
Lol "cold winters". Don't we know it.
There are actually several college towns on Forbes' list. Maybe it's the fun atmosphere (especially in the fall) that helps make these places good retirement spots.
