Peaceful Protest In Davenport Planned For Saturday
A peaceful protest is being planned in Davenport at the Davenport Police Department this Saturday. The protest is in response to the growing number of African-American deaths caused by what some see as police brutality.
Racial tension continues to be high in America. Currently, the country, and the world, is watching the murder trial of ex-Minneapolis police officer Dereck Chauvin, who is accused of using excessive force which killed George Floyd. The death of George Floyd, along with the death of Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and many other African-Americans that were killed by police in recent years, has sparked a national outcry for justice, the end to systemic racism, and the end to violence in policing.
The voices calling out for those changes include community members in the Quad Cities.
An organization called We F.I.G.H.T. has organized the peaceful protests on social media, including Facebook. According to their Facebook event, this is their very first protest of 2021.
Organizers are asking people to join them for the peaceful gathering against the systemic racism and violence in policing this Saturday, April 10th, at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join, and masks and signs are encouraged.
The peaceful protest will take place at the Davenport Police Department located at 416 Harrison Street, Davenport, IA 52801.
For those that want to attend and plan to drive, street parking is available. Just make sure you follow posted signs.
