According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there were a staggering 11,500 fireworks injuries treated in emergency rooms in 2021. 74% of these injuries happened during Independence Day celebrations.
Over the past fifteen years, the number of fireworks-related injuries has increased by 25% in America.
Among the most vulnerable victims of fireworks accidents are children, who make up more than a third of emergency room visits for fireworks-related injuries.

As innocent as sparklers may seem, they account for a lot of injuries in children between 5 and 9 years old. Also, they have more than double the risk of being injured by fireworks compared to other age groups.
These statistics highlight the pressing need for parents and caregivers to exercise caution when allowing children to be in the proximity of fireworks.
What Makes Sparklers Dangerous?
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia warns that sparklers burn at scorching temperatures of approximately 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit—hot enough to melt certain metals.
The sparks emitted from sparklers can inflict severe burns and eye injuries.

Even more alarming is the fact that direct contact between a lit sparkler and the skin can result in a serious burn.
Grim Realities: Sparkler-Related Injuries
In 2021, there was a tragic incident involving an 8-year-old boy who suffered a fatal injury caused by an illegal firework.
That same year, 1,100 emergency department-treated injuries were related to sparklers.

Some children may seem more mature and capable of handling sparklers, but the safest idea is to exercise extreme caution and prioritize safety above all else.
