In about a week, the Annual CASI St Pattys Day Race will begin in downtown Davenport!  The first official event of St. Pattys Day Weekend, then a parade, live bands and then onto day 2.  We will be there to kick off the run; sure I'd love to run, as hundreds do every year; and for a great cause. But, I am still a bit apprehensive; and rightly so. In doin some research, I have found it warranted to remain less than active when it comes to running too much. Researchers from the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, say previous studies have found that many sports competitors show signs of injury to the heart muscle and cardiac abnormalities after they exercise for long periods of time. The new study was created to assess the degree to which running a marathon stresses the heart, and whether it might cause permanent damage. Now, not that sitting around is all that healthy either, but seeing research like that is all I needed to hear to understand that remaining off the race course next Saturday morning is the right choice for me. Behind the mic is the best choice, while real, trained runners test their life span!
