An eyewitness to Friday's mass shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport says an Iowa couple are among the victims killed in the incident.

57-year-old Michael Oehme and his wife Kari of Council Bluffs were reportedly at the airport on their way to a cruise of the Caribbean.

Michael died in the shooting, and Kari is recovering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

There is no word on her condition.

Five were killed and eight were injured after a lone gunman opened fire in the lower level of terminal two of the airport.

Authorities believe the gunman, identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago, flew from Anchorage, Alaska and caught a connecting flight from Minneapolis- St. Paul to Ft. Lauderdale via Delta Airlines.

Santiago picked up his gun from baggage claim and began the shooting spree.

Federal guidelines allow for passengers to check unloaded firearms in a locked case and ammunition to be placed in check baggage.

Broward County Sheriff's office took Santiago into custody unharmed shortly after the incident first occurred.
