There might not be much getting out late for some Illinois teenagers.

A lot of us broke curfew when we were teenagers but now there could be legal trouble for kids who do.

According to NBC Chicago, a Chicago city council member has proposed an 8:00 p.m. curfew for teenagers in the city.

The curfew would apply to unaccompanied minors (under 17) in the city's Central Business District. That includes the Loop, Streeterville, River North, and the South and West Loop.

If it were to pass, police could arrest and ticket minors who violate the policy. It wouldn't be the first curfew in Chicago, as last year curfews went into place at city beaches and Millennium Park. Currently, the citywide curfew for minors is 10:00 p.m.

The idea for the curfew comes after a recent incident in Streeterville, where teens allegedly assaulted a 40-year-old man and a 41-year-old pregnant woman. The city council member who proposed the curfew said about that:

I do not believe every minor present during these recent gatherings have ill intentions, but it is painfully clear that a few agitators and ring leaders have instigated violent and chaotic actions time and time again, and this activity cannot be tolerated

Officials are split on the curfew suggestion. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is not a fan of the idea though Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling supports it. The curfew proposal was just introduced at the city council meeting today so it has a ways to go if it were to be enacted.
