At one point in time telling ghost stories was a strong tradition with the holiday season. Now most of those spooky stories are saved for Halloween, but as someone who loves a good scare, I think ghost stories are perfect for any time of the year. Here are some of the best ghost stories for the holiday season.

3. The Call

The horror movie "Black Christmas" is based off of this scary story. While we are all spending more time at home this year, this story may just haunted us a bit more.

It follows a younger babysitter getting haunting and threating phone calls leading to here calling the police. After the last call, the police tell her the call is coming from inside the house. In some cases the babysitter and child make it out okay, in others no one makes it. This story has multiple different versions.

2. Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad

This story was told to me by my grandpa one year, and haunted me more than it should have. It's a great story.

While on vacation for the holidays, a professor who thinks very highly of him self discovers an old whistle with an eerie Latin inscription. He is unable to translate the warning, but thinks he knows best. This leads him to blow it, setting off a series of haunting events.

1. A Christmas Carol

This story has had countless movies made about it, and is a classic. Many likely already know this story in one way or another.

It's the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, and angary and bitter old man, who is hated by most due to how mean he is. He is then visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the 3 ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man, who is then accepted and loved by the town.

The Quad Cities also has a few local legends, and haunting tales. Those can be found here.
