A while ago, I heard about a scam phone call that Quad Cities residents were receiving. Basically, someone claiming to be the IRS calls you and insists that you owe them money. Different versions of the scam say that the caller will sometimes threaten to send police to your home if you don't pay up or that you'll be sent to prison immediately.

Of course, none of this is true. The Moline Police Department is warning residents that the scammers are making the phone calls again.

In a recent Facebook post, the Moline PD says its received several calls from people who have been targeted by the scam. They remind QC residents that the IRS will never notify you by telephone, only through the mail. While most people won't fall for the ploy, I'm sure there are some that do, and that's pretty upsetting.
