My son recently took a school trip to Washington D.C. Despite being two generations removed from the war in Vietnam, he and his classmates were very moved by their visit to the Vietnam Memorial.

The simple wall contains the names of every soldier lost in the conflict in the Asian peninsula. My son witnessed a classmate take a rubbing of the name of a soldier for someone back home.

For those who cannot make the journey to the wall, WQPT, our local PBS affiliate is bringing the wall to us.

The Wall That Heals is a half-size replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. WQPT Quad Cities PBS will be hosting The Wall through their 'Embracing Our Military' initiative in honor of those who fell and to welcome home those who served.

The Wall will be on the campus of Western Illinois University in Moline this Thursday through Sunday, July 27-30. There will be a traveling exhibit and an exhibit from students of the Master's Museum Studies program from Western Illinois University as well.

This event is free and open to the public.

Teachers who might want free resources for their classroom to teach about the Vietnam War era can attend a free workshop at WIU-QC on Friday, July 28th at 1:00pm.

To sign up, they just need to call Michael Carton, our Director of Education and Outreach, at 309-764-2400 ext 65026
