WATCH: Brewing Company Employees In Illinois Rescue DoorDash Driver On Frozen River
Talk about taking action fast.
Sometimes in major situations we wait around for someone else to step in, an adultier adult. But that wasn't the gut instinct of some brewery workers in Rockford.
Last week, a DoorDash driver was leaving Prairie Street Brewing and turned toward the Rock River, instead of out of the parking lot.
His car went nearly 100 ft. on the ice before it began to sink. The brewery staff realized the driver was still inside so they acted immediately.
Rescue lessons from TikTok kicked in and worker Hope Parrotte grabbed silverware to bang the back window out and ran to the car, along with Prairie Street chefs Josh Tourville and Ryan Bullock.
The first thing we asked when we were running down there was ‘Somebody called 911,’. That’s obviously the first thing [that] needs to be done because honestly [it] could have turned into like a one-man rescue to a four-man rescue. It’s a river, so its ice isn’t safe. But he drove a car out there, so we figured they can support a few people.
The staff were able to get the driver out of the car and drag him off the river to safety. First responders did arrive at the scene to further help.

Parrotte said the other key factor were Spanish lessons. There was a language barrier between the driver and the brewery workers but once Parrotte noticed his passenger window was cracked open as the car was sinking, Parrotte started speaking Spanish.
