Gotta ease the mood somehow.

Contrary to what some may think, our lawmakers really put in hours at work. As Des Moines Register reports, this week, before adjourning, an Iowa legislative session went overnight, into the next day.

Maybe it's that lack of sleep, loopy-minded, sleep-deprived mood that inspired Senator Dave Rowley (R, Spirit Lake) to break out his guitar around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15th.

As they were in a break, Senator Rowley played and sang 'Here Comes The Sun', the Beatles hit by George Harrison. After he finished playing, there was applause and (of course) someone shouted "Free Bird!"

Senator Rowley played a few more songs before telling his devotees "Thank you very much, we'll see you again next year."

Considering it was 1:30 in the morning, 'Here Comes The Sun' is a pretty appropriate song choice. The final gavel for this legislative session dropped Thursday morning at 6:31 a.m. That's a pretty long night.

It marks the 123rd day of the session, ending the legislative session that (according to Ballotpedia) was supposed to end on May 9th after commencing on January 13th.

Over the course of this legislative session, Governor Kim Reynolds has signed multiple bills into law, even over the course of April alone.

Nothing says ending a legislative session on a lighthearted note quite like a 1:30 a.m. guitar sing-along moment.
