The latest cover of Time Magazine is drawing attention. But then again, that was the point. The cover of the latest edition which hit newsstands yesterday features the names of 253 communities across the U.S. that have seen a mass shooting this year. Cedar Rapids and Des Moines made that list.

First of all, a mass shooting isn't always the event we saw in the headlines last weekend. This list which was compiled by the Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as an incident in which four people other than the shooter were injured or killed. The editor of Time says that it is a reminder that gun violence in America is even greater than some of the more public incidents we hear so much about.

The Des Moines shooting happened back on June 16th. 6 people were injured in the incident.

The Cedar Rapids shooting on May 18th when four people were shot inside a parked car outside a Southwest Cedar Rapids store. 18-year-olds Matrell E. Johnson and Royal C. Abram were killed. Two 19-year-olds were injured. Their names have not been released.
