Why Can’t Women Accept Compliments?

I will be the first to admit it, I get unreasonably uncomfortable when someone pays me a compliment. The "Oh my gosh, you look so cute!" phrase sends me into an absolute frenzy.

'What do I say?! Quick, find something of theirs I can compliment. If you just say 'Thank you' you're going to look like a totally a**hole.' What if there isn't anything I can genuinely compliment? Then I'm going to sound insincere and STILL look like an a**hole!'

So, usually my go-to is: "Oh, thank you! I got this from TJ Maxx for like $20!" Which is generally always the truth #thosebargainstho

But why is it that women struggle with compliments? We love hearing them, but don't necessarily know how to react once it's paid.
