Wisconsin Couple Allegedly Used “Elaborate Poisons” In Plot To Kill Women He Dated
And you thought you hated your ex.
If you've watched enough true crime stuff, you probably know that certain poisons can be found on a toxicology test. Apparently, this couple didn't and ended up with a wild plot to kill the guy's exes with poison.
According to KWQC/WMTV, Paul VanDuyne Jr. and Andrea Whitaker are accused of 3 counts of attempted first-degree homicide as party to a crime, aggravated battery, stalking, and first-degree recklessly endangering safety as party to a crime
VanDuyne is also facing 2 counts of attempted first-degree homicide in Dane County with a bail set at $10 million. Whitaker's bail is $4 million.
The Plot
As a victim put it:
I went on two dates with Paul over a year ago. I told him I wasn’t interested and we were never in a relationship. I was never his girlfriend, and yet he and Andrea developed the delusion that I was. The fact that this delusion was so strong that they tried to murder me.
Another victim, this one an actual ex-girlfriend said VanDuyne cheated on her with Whitaker. She warned him at the time that Whitaker may be toxic (ironic use of term now). At the time, Whitaker was finishing pharmacy school.
VanDuyne, who graduated from Princeton University, was also accused of stalking a victim. Mind you, this is an abbreviated version of the allegations.
The pair didn't have a justification for all of these poison shenanigans, or if they did it isn't public.
The Poisons
In Dane County, that's where VanDuyne allegedly poisoned the first victim (the one he had only gone on a couple of dates with a year ago) with cyanide and thallium by breaking into her car and putting it in her water bottle. Thallium is historically a rat poison that was banned in the U.S. years ago.
Just days before that attack, in Rock County, (this is the longterm ex) VanDuyne is accused of making multiple poisoning attempts with both cyanide and thallium but also with abrin, which is a toxic plant protein derived from rosary pea, putting it in her car vents.
And wouldn't you know it, Whitaker's search history included "abrin lethal dose" and "how quickly is sodium cyanide lethal".
So now, VanDuyne is set to be in court on August 4th, Whitaker will be in court on July 2nd.
