“I Hope You’ll Excuse Me If I Have To Kill You Guys”: Wisconsin Man Pleads Not Guilty In Friend’s Murder
Our friends can get frustrating now and then but this may be a bit of an overreaction.
75-year-old Brent Hofman from Clintonville, Wisconsin is accused of killing his friend, 67-year-old Rick Roundy of Greenleaf. The two men were friends because they both owned hunting land around Germania.
It happened in November 2025 at a home in the Town of Germania, when a caller told dispatch Hofman had shot Roundy in the garage.
Hofman wasn't quite done.
The caller said he, himself, locked himself in a building on the property and would defend himself if necessary. Hofman tried to enter the building and the caller fired his .22 caliber rifle at him. Hofman got cuts from the shattered glass.
The second victim told investigators he doesn't believe there was anything said to provoke Hofman.
When deputies got there, Hofman wasn't complying with verbal demands but was arrested and appeared drunk.
Now, Hofman has pleaded not guilty to shooting and killing his friend. He's facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and both of them have added penalties since the victim was elderly and a dangerous weapon was used.
Shawano County District Attorney Gregory Parker read the criminal complaint late last year and said:
I can’t put this thing any other way, but this is a killing in cold blood.
There still hasn't been any indicator on any kind of a possible motive for Hofman. He's due back in court on July 8th.
Meanwhile, Hofman remains in the Shawano County Jail on a $1 million bond.
