Do you ever tap the marketplace button when you're scrolling through Facebook trying to waste time during the day? Facebook Market place can be a fascinating rabbit hole to dive into. If you're looking for a certain item or just want to do some internet window shopping, Facebook's marketplace is a fantastic place to start. It's also a fantastic way to waste a quick 30 minutes if you're waiting at the DMV or the doctor's office.

You can find anything from clothes, musical instruments, computers, grills, furniture... the list is endless. I'm not saying you haven't found interesting or really unique items on Iowa's Facebook marketplace but I bet you've never seen an item like this before.

My fiance was scrolling through the eastern Iowa section, just to browse. She's always on the lookout for house decorations, furniture, and things for our cats. Most of these things drive me nuts because I don't think we need them. She did come across an item that we raised our eyebrows at and then started laughing.

When we read the description we both thought "this must be a joke." I found out it kind of is after talking to the seller. I'll have more on that later. When she found this, we had a ton of questions right off the bat; How do you get one of these? Do people actually buy these? What would you use it for? Why would you want one? Does it work?

Can you fill in the blank and figure out what the item is? The description reads "perfect gift for that felon or ex-con in your life! Here is a new, without box ______ _____. Located in Cedar Rapids. First Cash, no holds." When you read a description like that, you can't help but click on the item.

I reached out to Josh, owner of the item being sold and he told me

"I was joking with a friend before I listed to the item, I told him I was about to blow up the internet. My messenger has been very active since I listed it. I actually started with 5 of these and have sold 4 of them at garage sales over the spring/summer. My father would buy packages deals from government surplus websites and that was how I acquired them."

There's no shot you've seen a Correction Facility Phone (prison phone) being sold before. The description is fantastic and really gave me a good laugh.

Would you know what to do with one of these if you had one? I could see using it as a decoration in a man cave or something but I wouldn't have a clue what else I could use it for. I also wouldn't know where to begin with thinking of an asking price if I was selling one.

You've likely seen some pretty unique items for sale on Facebook's marketplace but have you ever seen a prison phone? Hopefully, if you need to use this item it's for personal research and not because...well, you're in jail. It might not be your crazy uncle Ted's favorite holiday gift he gets this year but I'm sure this would be the most unique gift he received.

The item is still for sale and is currently listed here. You can reach out to Josh via messenger with any questions.
