Forgive me for the pun, but I will go so far as to say Zombie Burger is scary good. My family and I recently visited their new location in Iowa City, and we were pleasantly surprised by how great the atmosphere, service, and food were, especially considering the horror-themed establishment opened its door just a couple of weeks ago.

One of the fun aspects of the restaurant are the themed menu items taken from pop culture. My husband ordered the Planet Terror- a burger featuring barbecue sauce, bacon, cheddar, caramelized onion, and ranch. Zombie Burger gives you the option of a single, double, or triple patty. He went with the double, and was left satisfied. I got a single patty Negan- a totally vegan burger with a veggie patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, guac, and vegan mayo. I am a vegetarian, so I appreciated that the restaurant has plenty of vegan and veggie options, including a portobello mushroom burger as well.

I know some people probably roll their eyes at the site of a veggie burger on a restaurant menu, but this particular patty was hearty and spiced well. I think even a die-hard meat eater could appreciate it.

Along side our burgers, we had a large side of loaded fries (Minus the bacon for me. Feel free to roll your eyes again.) The fries had a really tasty cheese sauce and came with sides of sour cream.

Sadly, we were too full from our meals to indulge in one of their scrumptious looking shakes, but I plan on ordering one the next time we visit...And there will be a next time!

Our food was delivered promptly, especially considering how busy the restaurant became right after we ordered. If you're thinking of taking the trip, try to arrive before noon to beat the lunch crowds.

Adding to the zombie-fide atmosphere are the parody movie posters, depicting films with a zombie edge. My personal favorite was Breakfast IS Tiffany, complete with poor Audrey Hepburn's face chewed off. Morbid, but totally in line with the restaurant. There's also an awesome University of Iowa themed zombie mural that takes up a good chunk of one wall.

Coolest mural.

Zombie Burger also has a second location in the Iowa City area, inside the food court at Coral Ridge Mall. We considered checking that one out instead, but I wanted the full experience of the restaurant.

All in all, it was a delicious visit to a much hyped eatery. I would highly recommend taking the trip from the QC if you're craving a frightfully good burger.
