Who doesn't love a good, carby donut?

As I write this, we have donuts in the break room. Or we at least had before the vultures descended on them.

But can you blame them? Donuts, especially at work, make the day more bearable.

To narrow the donut field down, Yelp compiled a list of the Top 50 Donut Shops In The U.S., according to reviews from Yelp Elites (the frequent reviewers). Considering how many donut shops there are in the country, it's a major honor to be on the list and 3 bakeries in Illinois got themselves on it! Here they are, with their rank.

13. Beacon Doughnuts (Chicago)

The biggest tip Yelp users have for Beacon (which is in the Lincoln Park neighborhood) is to pre-order days in advance to skip the line. They have small-batch and vegan offerings.

25. Country Donuts (Crystal Lake)

Country Donuts is in Crystal Lake. Yelpers praise the friendly staff for making everyone feel like regulars. They recommend the apple fritters and the long johns.

48. Old Fashioned Donuts (Chicago)

Since 1972, Old Fashioned Donuts has been bringing sweet carbs to Chicago, specifically South Michigan Street. Yelpers recommend getting there early, as they sell out fast, but they say their apple fritters are worth the wait.

Of course, there are plenty of good donut places that aren't on the list. In most cases, a donut is a good donut. Now, we both want one. Go get one. You deserve it.
