Election day is Tuesday, November 8.  This means, no more political ads on Wednesday!  Yay!

It also means, more states across the country could be lighting up legally.  And one of those shares a border with Iowa.

Where is weed legal right now?

Currently, 19 states have legalized marijuana for recreational use.  Those include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.

All of those states plus these 18 have legalized marijuana for medical use.  Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, and West Virginia.

That leaves 13 states completely smoke-free.

Idaho, Kansas, and Nebraska have not only outlawed marijuana, but CBD products are illegal as well.  So clearly, the state that borders Iowa that could be lighting up, won't be Nebraska.

To the north side of Iowa, Wisconsin still has not legalized medical or recreational marijuana.  This is a bit surprising with Madison being the capital and a town that is known for its partying lifestyle.  However, remember what else is big in Wisconsin.  Beer.  Lots and lots of beer.  Including Miller.  A lot of pull and dollars coming from that company.

Legal recreational marijuana could be coming to 5 more states.

North Dakota, South Dakota, Arkansas, Maryland, and Missouri all have measures on the ballot to make recreational marijuana legal.

Missouris is another state with very large beer pockets.  However, medical marijuana is already legalized.  And after Tuesday, the odds are looking like recreational marijuana will also be legal.

Current polls show that Missouri, Maryland, and Arkansas voters are in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.  While the Dakota's are polling that they won't pass the new law.

In a recent MJBizDaily’s poll 65% of voters are likely to pass the measure. However, advocates are expressing concern about the bill's public consumption fines and limits of 3 ounces.

If the vote passes on Tuesday, Iowa will have two smoke-filled neighbors along its southern and eastern border in Missouri and Illinois.

Will Iowa look at becoming one of those smoky states in the future?  Or, at least join the northern border of Minnesota with medical marijuana?  It has been discussed, but at this point, is not looking likely.
