Chicagoland School Canceled Classes After Cop Lost Gun In Bathroom
Out of all the reasons school could get canceled, here we are.
What events could cancel school in the spring? Pre-determined days off, maybe some kind of intense severe weather threat, but not much. And this wouldn't be on a parent's Bingo card either.
This week, according to Patch, classes at Forest View Educational Center in Arlington Heights were canceled on Tuesday after a school resource officer lost his gun in the school while going to the bathroom on Monday.
Police said it happened right before school let out on Monday.
You may be thinking 'I'm sorry isn't this what holsters are for?' but the officer did have a holster on. Apparently, he took the gun out of his duty holster while he was using the bathroom, realized it was missing shortly after the kids were dismissed for the day, and thus began the search.
A K-9 search for the gun was unsuccessful and authorities think the firearm was stolen in the "unfortunate and embarrassing incident".
Since it took them a long time to look for the gun and out of an abundance of caution, Forest View Educational Center decided to cancel classes for Tuesday.
Police looked at surveillance footage and there were just a limited number of people that entered the bathroom around then but there's no determination from that either. A thorough search of the property "did not reveal the presence of a firearm".
Meanwhile for the rest of the week, there are additional uniformed police at the Forest View campus.
