B100 Mythbusting: Yes, You Can Still Drink Coffee When It’s Hot Out
When it gets hot like this, you start hearing a lot of old wives tales on how to stay cool. A lot of those will tell you to avoid things like big meals or coffee. The big meals thing is true. But according to the experts, the coffee one is not.
The warning is that coffee – or caffeinated drinks in general – will make you more dehydrated. Per Mayo Clinic, that's not quite right. They say that "While caffeinated drinks may have a mild diuretic effect — meaning that they may cause the need to urinate — they don't appear to increase the risk of dehydration."
Coffee may not be the ideal drink in heat like this, but then again, iced coffee exists now. So go on, enjoy your caffeine fix. Just make sure you have some water nearby as well!
