Grinnell, Iowa postal worker Dwayne Kriegel was a beloved member of his community after delivering mail for over 30 years.

Sadly, Kriegel passed away on Tuesday following an allergic reaction to wasp bites, reports WHO-TV.

According to his wife, Tammy, Krieger had developed the wasp allergy just a couple of years ago.

Last Thursday while on his mail route, Dwayne was stung by wasps while reaching into a mailbox.  Tammy said, "He was stung multiple times in his right hand and we don’t believe he could get his EpiPen open. They found it lying right beside him."

Krieger was life-flighted to Des Moines, but passed on Tuesday. He was reportedly without oxygen for fourteen minutes.

Krieger's legacy of kindness lives on, as he was able to donate his organs.

"The kind of man, kind, humble man who Dwayne was, he would have wanted to help other people and he went peacefully,” Tammy said.

Tammy is reminding people to be aware of wasps and bees that could be near their mailbox or plants., especially when children could be in the area.

"I just can’t imagine any family having to go through what my family just went through today. Grinnell lost a great man," said Tammy.
