Rare Blue Moon To Light Up Iowa This Weekend: What It Allegedly Means And When To See It
Does it ever feel like we've seen a lot of 'rare' astrological events lately?
Remember when everyone lost their minds over eclipses in the last few years that were supposed to be 'rare' then we had them what seems like every other year?
Now we're supposed to be able to see a blue moon (not the beer, you alcoholic) this weekend. It's supposed to be rare and is considered a 'micromoon', meaning it will be smaller and slightly further away from Earth.
For context, here was a blue supermoon from 2023:
Peak illumination of the blue moon in Iowa will be around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday morning but the best time to see it will be shortly after 8:40 p.m. on Saturday night, right around sunset.
It looks like it will be good conditions around eastern Iowa to see it this weekend so fold your chairs out and look east.
The "Meaning" Of A Blue Moon
As with everything in the sky, there's a belief behind a blue moon. The thought is that a blue moon, besides representing harvest, "offers an opportunity for contemplation, completion, and tapping into divine femininity". So basically girls rule, boys drool.
Blue moons are said to encourage you to prioritize things like therapy (I can't make this up).
It also means connecting to the "Goddess-oriented aspect of ourselves". So boss people around, I guess?
Back to reality, blue moons happen every 2-3 years so they're not lose-your-mind-over rare. After this one, the next blue moon visible around here will be in December 2028.
